Walker Baptist Hospital

This was a massive production for us and all credit goes to my colleague, Ricky Harmon, for pulling it off. This was his project all the way and it involved a ton of pre-production. This was a case where the client came to us with a specific vision of what they wanted for the spot, it was simply our job to make that look as good as possible. And we had no excuse, because they were willing to spend several thousand dollars just on the production. We rarely get a budget like this, so Ricky made sure to take advantage of it. It took him several months of meticulously planning every aspect of the shoot, from talent and equipment to coordinating everyone's schedules.
We actually hired experienced acting talent, which is something we only rarely do. We also had lunch catered for us, so that we could squeeze all the shooting into one day, in early May of 2006. Ricky also worked hard and fought battles to make sure we could use a Pro35 lens on our Sony cameras that would emulate, to a large degree, the depth of field and softer look of 35mm film. This is most evident in the third still shot above. We lit everything very softly, through 4'x4' silks, and used a dolly. Mostly the dolly was there to allow us to boom the camera up and down, but we do open with a dolly tracking shot.
My role in this production was limited to assisting on the shoot, Ricky and I were half of a four man crew, including Charter producer Andrew Townson. I ran a little bit of camera, pulled a little bit of focus and did a lot of grip work and lighting for each set-up. The end result, I think, is fantastic. It's a spot both Ricky and Charter Media should be proud of. Look for some behind the scene footage to appear soon on this website that will show a little bit of what was involved in this major shoot.
