Spider-Man King-Size Special #3
(November 1966)

The big event in the Marvel Universe for 2007 is "World War Hulk", in which we see the Hulk return to Earth and fight...well, everybody.  The green giant has a long history of conflict with his fellow heroes.  In fact, the Avengers spent a good part of their first two years dealing with him or chasing him down.  In order to thematically tie in to World War Hulk, I thought I'd dial up the Way Back Machine and find an early example of  Mr. Green Genes fighting the Avengers.  The team made a guest appearance in this 1966 issue, written by Stan Lee with pencil breakdowns by John Romita, Sr. and finishes by Don Heck.  The cover is drawn entirely by Romita with inks by Mike Esposito.
